- Oil Separation: The system uses a specialized, baffled aluminium separator or catch tank to extract oil particles from the air/oil vapor (blow-by gases).
- Oil Return: The separated oil is typically drained back into the engine sump below the oil level. This prevents the crankcase pressure from forcing the oil back into the separator and saves on oil consumption.
- Pressure Management: By effectively venting pressure, the system helps prevent the buildup of crankcase pressure that can lead to gasket/seal failures and oil being forced past turbo seals in high-performance engines.
- Improved Breathing: It allows the engine to “breathe” better, which can improve performance once the engine is properly set up.
- Configuration Options:
- Vented to Atmosphere: The cleaner air from the separator can be vented to the atmosphere or a catch tank.
- Recirculating (as standard): The system can also be routed back into the air filter box/intake system as standard, allowing fumes to be burned by the engine.
- A fabricated aluminium oil separator/catch tank (available in 2WD and 4WD configurations for Cosworths).
- An adaptor to connect to the engine block (often replacing a hexagonal bung on the rear of the cylinder block for the exhaust side).
