📑 General Installation Guide
If you are planning to replace a cracked or leaking plastic tank yourself, the process is straightforward for most Mitsubishi vehicles:
- Let the Engine Cool: Never open a cooling system while it is hot, as pressurized boiling coolant can spray out and cause severe burns.
- Disconnect the Overflow Hose: Use pliers to slide back the spring clamp, then carefully wiggle the rubber hose off the tank nozzle.
- Unbolt the Tank: Most models (like the Lancer, Outlander, and Triton) secure the tank using one or two 10mm or 12mm bolts. Remove these and pull the tank straight up.
- Transfer the Hardware: If your new tank didn’t come with them, swap over any rubber mounting grommets or spacers from the old unit.
- Mount and Refill: Secure the new tank with the bolts, attach the hose, and fill it to the “Max” line using a 50/50 pre-diluted antifreeze coolant matching your vehicle manual’s specifications
